Key facts

EC declaration of conformity:

  • Is a document which must be generated when applying the conformity assessment procedure;

  • the document must be kept for at least ten years from the last date of manufacture of the product;

  • may employ the standard EN 45014 as a general guidance for the declaration of conformity

  • must be drawn up in one of the official languages of the Community. However, for products, which are required to be accompanied by the declaration of conformity, it has to be in the official language of the country of use.
Contents of the declaration

As a minimum the document should contain:

  1. Identification of the manufacturer:
    the name and address of the manufacturer or the authorised representative issuing the declaration.

  2. Identification of the product:
    name, type or model number, and any relevant supplementary information, such as lot, batch or serial number, sources and numbers of items.

  3. Identification of the complying standards or other normative documents:
    in a precise, complete and clearly defined way.

  4. Description of any supplementary information that may be required:
    for example grade, category, if applicable.

  5. Date of issue of the declaration + Signature:
    signature and title or an equivalent marking of authorised person.

  6. Statement that the declaration is issued under the:
    sole responsibility of the manufacturer and, if applicable, the authorised representative.
