Description
  • One of three European Communities to bring about economic integration in Europe.

  • There were originally six member countries: Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.

  • In 1993, when the Maastricht Treaty came into force, the EEC was re-named the European Community (EC) and it forms the basis of today's European Union.
