Description

Joint working group from CEN and CENELEC to identify the challenges and opportunities of the Future Landscape of European Standardization and, taking account of the results, to agree how CEN and CENELEC can cooperate more closely in order to give a clear message to the outside world about the strong profile and the economic potential of the European Standardization system.

The FLES Whitebook, published on May 2007, identified challenges and opportunities. The detailed analysis of this whitebook led in 2007 to the approval of six recommendations that focus on areas where combined synergies was needed.

In 2009, much progress was made under recommendation 5 'back office' with the move of CEN and CENELEC to common premises, the further alignment of the IT architecture and the full development of the CEN-CENELEC Cooperation Package. The latter was approved by both General Assemblies in November 2009, entering into effect on 1 January 2010.
