Notified Body recognition

To be a official notified body:
- Must be a legal entity established on the territory of a Member State
- Recognised by the Member State where it is located.
- Notified Body must comply with the requirements laid down in the directives and Decision 93/465/EEC
- Member States may aplly EN 45000 series of standards to evaluate the competence of a Notified Body and thus, officialy recognize the body
Tasks of a Notified Body

A notified body may perform:
- approval and monitoring of the manufacturers' quality assurance system
- direct product inspection.
- be specialised for certain products/product categories or for certain modules
- emission of certificates about product or quality conformance according to the New Approach directives

General responsibilities of a Notified Body
|
A notified body shall:
- provide relevant information to their notifying authority, the market surveillance authorities and other notified bodies.
- operate in a competent, non-discriminatory, transparent, neutral, independent and impartial manner.
- employ the necessary personnel, which has sufficient and relevant knowledge and experience to carry out conformity assessment in accordance with the directive in question.
- make adequate arrangements to ensure confidentiality of the information obtained in the course of conformity assessment.
- be adequately insured to cover their professional activities, unless liability is assured under the national legislation of the notifying Member State.
- participate in coordination activities in a close cooperation among the notified bodies, the Member States and the European Commission
- take part directly or be represented in European standardisation, or otherwise ensure that they know the situation of relevant standards.
