- In this sense, in a Council Resolution in 1985, the New Approach to technical harmonisation and standards was introduced.
- The New Approach is a regulatory technique which harmonisation is limited to essential requirements. The technical specifications of products meeting the essential requirements set out in the directives are laid down in harmonised standards.
