Coordinate specification activities in the field of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT), under three vital objectives:

Analyze and co-ordinate requirements
Translate requirements into standardization programmes or projects
Allocate work to the most appropriate specifying body

Benefits

European Industry now benefits from a mechanism to achieve coherence and convergence of different technologies in the area of ICT, including the whole fields of information technology, telecommunications, broadcasting and entertainment.

The ICT Standards Board avoids wasting resources and draws on different market players, including various fora and consortia, which have carried out a substantial amount of work in producing technical specifications relating to ICT at different levels.

It is the recognition of the vital importance of information and communication technologies in the development of the "information age" in our society and represents the common understanding that European ICT standardization should be consistent with world-wide standards.
